“Never get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.”

(Dolly Parton)

This is so true when you are a parent. You have to work, take care of the kids, take care of yourself, have a social life etc. Being a parent is not an easy task, especially when you are a single parent and sometimes you get so busy that you forget to make a life.

It is critical to balance all the areas of your life to be able to live the fullest. It is important for you, it is important for the kids as they will reflect your own well-being in the way they behave.

Well-being is all about balance. To have a balanced life you must take care of all the key areas of your daily life:

  • Personal area: Everything that is related to you only-your health, your fitness, your appearance, etc.
  • Professional area: Everything that is related to income – career, work, school, etc.
  • Social area: Everything that is related to relationships including closed family or relationships with co-workers
  • Spiritual area: Everything that is related to your connection with forces larger than yourself- God, religion, nature, etc.

All key areas of your life are equally important. You must allocate enough time for each one and not neglect one area over another, otherwise, your life will be crippled:

  • Work: If you neglect your career, you will fall short on your potential and you might even live with financial problems.
  • Personal: If you neglect your health for example, you might become sick and you could not live with energy and vitality.
  • Social: If you neglect your relationships, you will not feel the happiness of friendship and family life and you might feel lonely or depressed.
  • Spiritual: If you neglect your spirituality, you will feel empty inside, no matter how successful you seem on the outside. It’s as if everything you have achieved is meaningless.

What about you? Is your life balanced? Do you feel you are neglecting one area over another?
